Scientific Name: Ipomoea aquatica Forssk,

Syn: Ipomoea reptans Poir

Kalmi grows as a weed in water bodies. Currently it is cultivated as a field vegetable crop and is known as a leafy vegetable.

Medicinal value of Kalmi


(1) Kalmishaka juice acts as an antidote to vasculitis. In this case, two spoons of the juice of Kalmi mixed with one cup of warm milk and consumed for a few days can get rid of spring disease attacks.

(2) Gonorrhoea burning pain and discharge of pus is stopped if a person suffering from gonorrhoea is given 4-5 spoons of kalmishak juice mixed with little ghee twice a day.

(3) Kalmishak works well in tunco disease (Mastitis) of mothers. In this case, kalmi shak should be applied to the breast with a little heat and the juice should be washed and by doing this, the breast milk will be diluted and milk secretion will be facilitated and the pain will also be reduced along with it.

(4) In the case of sleep related problems of the child, i.e. he wakes up at night and sleeps during the day, 20-25 drops of Kalmi vegetable juice mixed with a little warm milk is beneficial.

(5) Due to excessive masturbation, symptoms such as head-holding, hand and foot burning, burning sensation, mouth watering and lack of interest in studies occur. In this case, two spoons of Kalmi vegetable juice and one and a half grams of Ashwagandha (Withania somifera) root powder should be taken. It is good to eat it with a little milk and relieves the bad habit symptoms.

(6) Insects (such as bumblebees, bees, beetles, etc.) apply the stinging nettle or rub the stinging nettle to reduce the burning pain.

(7) If the boil is filled with pus but is not bursting, if Kalmishak and its roots are coated with beet, the boil bursts and the disease is relieved.
