Scientific Name: (1) Trigonella foenumgraecum L - Common Fenugreek

(2) Trigonella corniculata Kashuri Methi.

Methiviru plant. Its leaves, stems and branches are cooked and eaten. The leaves and seeds are very nutritious and have medicinal properties.

Medicinal value of Fenugreek:

(1) Fenugreek leaves act as antidote for flatulence, indigestion, anemia etc. The seeds are also very effective in treating anemia.

(2) Tea made from fenugreek seeds works well in alleviating some diseases. Namely: Tuberculosis, Fever, Bronchitis, Influenza, Catarrh, Pneumonia, Diabetes, Peptic Ulcer, Leucorrhea etc.

(3) Fenugreek helps in blood formation. Eating cooked leaves prevents anemia.

(4) Diabetic patients are relieved by eating fenugreek seeds. Mix two spoons of fenugreek seeds in broth or milk and eat. Two spoons of fenugreek seeds should also be chewed. Alternatively, soak two teaspoons of fenugreek seeds in a cup of water and drink the water the next morning.

(5) Gargling fenugreek solution in throat is beneficial. In this case, two spoons of fenugreek seeds should be boiled in one liter of water and then strained and cooled and gargled.
