     Lettuce:

Scientific Name : Lactuca sativa

Lettuce is cultivated as a culinary vegetable throughout India. Lettuce is the king of salad plants. Lettuce is eaten in salads and cooked.



Medicinal value of lettuce:

(1) Constipation

As lettuce contains cellulose, it increases the amount of food and movement of the arms. That is why it is very effective in curing constipation.

(2) Insomnia

(Insomnia)

Lettuce contains a substance called Lectucarium which helps induce sleep. The seeds are used in insomnia.

(3) Diabetes

Lettuce contains three percent or less of carbohydrates. Hence it is recommended for honeydew patients to consume it. But it is necessary to eat fresh.

(4) Anemia

Lettuce is rich in iron. It is prescribed to be used as a tonic in anemic patients.

(5) Other ailment

Eating lettuce regularly is useful as a cure for many diseases. Namely:

(1) Arthritis.

(2) Catarrh of the eye (Cattarrh).

(3) Colitis.

(4) Stomach inflammation (Gastritis).
